Description

View of Saturn showing the difference in the appearance of its northern and southern hemispheres. The precise cause of this colour difference is not known, though it is speculated that it is due to seasonal effects in its atmosphere. This image was achieved by combining images taken using red, green and blue spectral filters. It was taken using the wide- angle camera onboard the Cassini spacecraft, at a distance of approximately 1.1 million kilometres from Saturn, on February 4th 2007. (Photo by Science Photo Library)
