Description

This irregular shaped moon has the dimensions 328 by 260 by 214 kilometres and is composed of water ice with a few impurities. It is thought that due to its low density much of its interior is empty. The Cassini-Huygens spacecraft was launched in 1997 to investigate Saturn, its rings and its moons. Image obtained on 26th September 2005 by the Cassini spacecraft’s narrow-angle camera, at a distance of 62,000 kilometres from Hyperion. (Photo by Science Photo Library)
