Algal blooms (green, top) have formed in the Barents Sea off northern Scandinavia (lower left) and north-western Russia (lower right). Image data obtained on 5 August 2012, with the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) sensor on one of NASA’s Earth Observing System satellites (Terra and Aqua).
