9th August 1947: A yachtsman edges out over the icy waters of the River Clyde to adjust his sails. The Royal Northern Yachting Club hosts an annual international yachting event known as ‘The Fortnight’ on the River Clyde, and various classes of boats take part in races such as the Seawanhaka Cup, which has been presented by an American sailing club since 1895.
