Description

Saturn’s rings are composed of ice and rock particles. The large gap in the rings at centre is the Cassini division, which separates the A (outer, right) and B (inner, left) rings. The Cassini-Huygens spacecraft was launched in 1997 to investigate Saturn, its rings and its moons. This image was taken by Cassini’s narrow-angle camera on the 18th May 2005 at a distance of 2.4 million kilometres from Saturn. (Photo by Science Photo Library)
