Description

The planet’s rings are seen edge on across centre left. They are illuminating Saturn’s southern hemisphere. A crescent Tethys, one of Saturn’s moons, is seen at left below the rings. The Cassini-Huygens spacecraft was launched in 1997 to investigate Saturn, its rings and its moons. This image was taken by Cassini’s narrow- angle camera on the 2nd April 2006 at a distance of 3.8 million kilometres from Saturn. (Photo by Science Photo Library)
